Mahindra Electric and 91Wheels Complete Landmark New Delhi–Thimphu Cross-Border Electric Vehicle Expedition

91Wheels.com and Mahindra Electric Automobile Limited completed a landmark New Delhi–Thimphu cross-border electric SUV expedition with 10 vehicles covering 1,850 km. Recognised by the India Book of Records, the journey demonstrated EV endurance, real-world charging capability, and customer confidence across extreme terrain, high altitude, and long-distance international travel conditions.

In a significant milestone for electric mobility in South Asia, 91Wheels.com, in collaboration with Mahindra Electric Automobile Limited (MEAL), has successfully completed a cross-border electric vehicle expedition from New Delhi, India, to Thimphu, Bhutan, demonstrating the long-distance capability of modern electric SUVs under real-world conditions.

The expedition featured a convoy of 10 Mahindra Electric Origin SUVs that completed the 1,850-kilometre journey to Bhutan’s capital. The achievement has been officially recognised by the India Book of Records as the “Largest Electric Vehicle Convoy on a Cross-Border International Road Trip,” underscoring the scale and significance of the initiative.

The journey included participation from real-world customers, with families, friends, siblings, and solo drivers taking part. The fleet comprised Mahindra XEV 9e, XEV 9S, and BE 6 electric SUVs, reflecting authentic ownership experiences across international borders and varied driving conditions.

Built on Mahindra’s INGLO electric vehicle platform, the convoy navigated diverse terrain and climatic conditions while relying entirely on public and planned charging infrastructure. The expedition reinforced growing confidence in electric mobility, demonstrating that electric SUVs are capable of handling long-distance, intercity, and cross-border travel when supported by structured charging access and careful planning.

Reeti Nageshri, Head of Business Operations at Mahindra Electric Automobile Limited, added, “People still ask if an electric vehicle can handle a real road trip. Our customers have answered that question by driving nearly 4,000 kilometres each across two countries, through extreme heat, mountain roads and changing terrain. The story here is not just the vehicles, but the confidence customers now have to go further than they ever thought possible.”

Sunish Kumar, Founder of 91Wheels.com, further stated, “At 91Wheels, our goal has always been to simplify personal mobility by helping consumers make informed decisions with confidence. In a category where trust plays a critical role, we continue to invest in expert-led content, technology-driven experiences, and unbiased guidance that empower millions of vehicle buyers across India. As mobility evolves, our focus remains on building a trusted ecosystem that puts the consumer first.”

The expedition followed a structured five-day route covering New Delhi to Agra, Lucknow, and Gorakhpur over 882 kilometres on the first day; Gorakhpur to Muzaffarpur and Siliguri over 647 kilometres on the second day; Siliguri to Jaigaon and Phuentsholing over 151 kilometres on the third day; and Phuentsholing to Thimphu over 170 kilometres on the fourth day, with additional travel in Thimphu and Paro on the fifth day.

Collectively, the convoy covered nearly 40,000 kilometres by the time all participating customers returned to New Delhi. Throughout the expedition, the electric SUVs underwent consecutive DC fast-charging sessions, operated in temperatures reaching 47 degrees Celsius across northern plains, and navigated elevations approaching 9,000 feet, highlighting their resilience under demanding conditions.

The journey stands as a defining demonstration of endurance, technology, and customer confidence, symbolising a shift in perception where electric mobility is no longer constrained by geography or skepticism but enabled by capability and preparation.
